Lei was born on Pearl Harbor's Day, 1979 to parents, Jeanne & Jerry Melket.  She was born and raised in Central O'ahu - mainly Wahiawa and Mililani.  Her interest in music began as a little girl, loving anything and everything her parents listened to.  She enrolled in 'ukulele lessons with her older sister at the age of six and continued learning by ear all through high school.  With the intent of giving Keahiwai a fuller sound, Lei picked up the acoustic guitar in 2000 and became the rhythm guitarist for the duo.

Lei is a 1997 graduate of Maryknoll Schools and obtained her B.A. in Hawaiian Language from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2004.  In her spare time she enjoys hanging out with friends and family, barbequeing, shooting pool, throwing darts, going to the beach, watching music, and of course music.
